Having the right tool to do the job is so important. Without the right tool in hand, you are not likely to get the job done. Last week we talked about just such a tool that can help improve our prayer lives. Using a ‘tool’ from Donald Whitney, we began to unpack how to put this list into practice in our prayer lives. This week let’s pick up where we left off and cover the last three items on the list.
PRAY FOR WORK OR SCHOOL
Depending on where you are in life, you will focus on work, or schoolwork. Some of you will actually focus both at the same time. God bless you. If you are in the workforce and employed by a business, you can pray for the company’s leadership, success, and other issues that are inherent in your particular field. It may be that you run your own business. If so then pray for the above items and whatever other things you face. Also, pray for the Lord to bless your business and grow it so you can use it for His purposes and Kingdom.
For those not working, but attending school, you have a different focus. Ask God to help you understand and remember what you learn. When it comes time to take a test, ask your ever-present Heavenly Father to help you quickly, accurately, and completely recall all you have studied so you can make a good grade on the test. Also, pray for favor in the eyes of your teachers and for healthy relationships with your peers.
PRAY FOR YOUR CHURCH AND MINISTRY
The Bible talks about following and respecting your Church leaders. So pray for your Church leaders to be wise in the way they fulfill their ministry. Pray for their marriages, families, and friendships. Also, pray for their spiritual life to be dynamic and joyful. Pray for your church in general for unity, spiritual and numerical growth, financial stability, passion to reach the lost, and a love for Jesus. Also, pray specifically for the areas in which you serve. Pray for the particular needs that you know of in the lives of the people you serve.
PRAY FOR WHATEVER CRISIS IS IN OR NEAR YOUR LIFE.
Enough said. When life goes sideways, the need to pray is acute. Ask God to provide the resources needed, the money that can help, the grace to sustain those involved and for His grace to shower down on the crisis to provide comfort and healing.
So there you have six key items on which most people focus their prayer needs. Use this template to help guide you week in and week out as you move to a healthy and consistent prayerlife. Remember I told you how my Dad could fix anything with the right tool? Well, now you have a great tool to apply to your spiritual well being. Put it into use and begin to grow.
